Sure maternity leave is great but I hear you have to wait in line in order to have a baby! Long lines for healthcare there and its sub standard. We can't have that here in the land of the free and the home of the brave!

My wife made a very wordly comment the other night
by Clambake inmy wife who is currently on maternity leave made a comment about luck she was to leave in canada because we get 52 weeks maternity at basically 40,000 per year.
she is not originally from canada coming from a country with basically no maternity leave.
i told her to make sure she doesn't say anything like that at kh.

$10 per pub. Money begging session last night
by StarTrekAngel inlast night, during our "christian life and ministry" meeting, we had a session on local needs.
elder opened the talk with a disclaimer saying that this was a reminder (cited psalms about how david loved jehovahs reminders).
he reminded us of how bless we are of having our own local assembly hall.

Remember, the circuit elders add a large donation to the society to each assembly cost. Each individual assembly. This amount is considered when the accounting is done and if it is not met it is announced as "This assembly had not met its costs." So its bullshit to say that local money wasn't provided for maintenance, it was diverted and more is being asked. They are merely insuring their donations remain static from the assemblies. Such bullshit. It always struck me as dishonest to consider a fixed donation that the publishers didn't know about in the budget report to the attendees of a Circuit Assembly. The A. Hall might need only 2000.00 for the assembly but they needed 3000.00 more for the designated donation to the worldwide work. Jerks. -

New way to fade?
by dothemath ina brother in a local congregation has successfully faded, no announcements or judicial hearings that anyone has heard of.. his immediate family are all out, but they have lots of family still in.. if he had joined another religion, or the army, or put up christmas lights, likely the elders would be hounding them like crazy.. but no, he has accepted evolution(it seems to be common knowledge).. i would have thought this would be a disfellowshipping offense, but lots of time has passed, and they just leave them all alone..

Generally its a matter off the radar, off the books. The problem arises if you rub their noses in their own excrement.

Who did you believe the scriptures were describing when you were a JW?

We were taught the primary application of any scripture was the anointed. I always felt like the Bible wasn't talking to me except when it had to do with what I should or shouldn't do. Ugh. To be associated with the ones who it was written for was the hook, you could be in cahoots with those guys! Wow! It's part of the programming I think. Now I think it was written for tribe members from long ago who have no bearing on me. -

Would you kill for the org?.......YES I WOULD!
by olongapo joe inso, a few years ago my jw parents, my non jw sister and her husband, and myself were discussing religion and jw beliefs.
my parents of course defending the jw's, the rest of us, against jw's ( it may not have been specifically against jw's, maybe just religion in general) anyway, things are getting a little heated, and i finally ask my pops, if the watchtower bible and tract society told you to go out and start killing muslims, would you do it?
yes i would, was his reply, to which i say, then your not any different than the radical muslims killing in the name of religion.

Would you trade one decent HS dance with a nice girl for all the talks in the ministry school? Hell yes. I think if I had more social contact i would have been a more open person instead of a gifted speaker. I would have had more fun in my teens and that would have been good. Most JW children are social cripples in the real world. Nothing I gained from JW's couldn't have been gotten elsewhere. Even Community College teaches public speaking, its a requirement by the way. -

inquiring mind has 3 questions
by OutsiderLookingIn injust a few questions from a newbie.
answer one or as many as you want.
1. why cleaners?
-
Wasanelder Once
1. JW's are not particularly cleaner than other people. Many are just the opposite. It is simply a convenience for JW's to become cleaners, windows, office etc. because it takes little mental effort and believe it or not they can do it without paying taxes because it is often a cash transaction. Others justify that they don't make enough to pay taxes and don't report it. The sad thing is there is no Soc Security points and thus no retirement. They will regret it. It makes it easier to schedule conventions and such when you are your own boss.
2. Yes, guilt runs deep. People leave for various reasons. Most to escape the pressure not the doctrines. Those that leave for doctrine seldom return. Everyone else is likely to have at least one relapse. That was me the first time I left. This time? No guilt, just education.
3. Can't answer that. was born to the breed but didn't join till 16.
